Hells yeah, have been waiting for this one for a while!!!

“Open Records are proud to present our long awaited third CD compilation Expansion Pack, compiled by label boss and pioneering force in the Australian underground dance music culture, Ian Woodsman.

Anyone who knows the man himself, knows that Woodsman doesn’t do anything in halves. So when it came to the task of putting together his own compilation at the start of the year, one disc alone was never going to cut it.

After months in the lab, he is finally ready to give us Expansion Pack, a 2-disc collection of deep, intelligent, genre-mashing dance music, held together with Ian’s distinctly staunch, epic sound that has earned him the title of one of Australia’s favourite open-air DJs.

From international heavyweights like Matador, Erphun, Boris Brejcha, Pow-Low, Fiord, SQL, Ndsa, Weekend Heroes, Perfect Stranger, Astronivo, Sheff, MUTe, Grouch, Alexander Madness and A. Balter, through to home grown Aussie favourites like SunControlSpecies, Sensient, One Tasty Morsel, Waltone, Blinky, Def Digital and Algenon, the music of Expansion Pack sits at the point where techno, progressive and minimal meet and is proof that quantity and quality can co-exist without compromise.

Representing a significant step forward for Open Records on the international stage, Expansion Pack is one of the ‘must buy’ CD releases of 2010, for both the DJ or listener alike.”

Top of the tick list for me is bandwidth usage- around 30mb an hour so at least I know I can listen to an hour or two each day without getting myself in trouble.

“Kiss FM is Australia’s original and premier dance music radio station, showcasing Australia and the world’s finest DJs and producers doing what they do best—spinning and making music to aurally excite lovers of syncopated rhythms. Stream Kiss FM’s blissful and blistering vibrations direct to your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, no matter where you are.

Please note that streaming uses 28-29MB per hour, so please check your data plan costs with your carrier.”

Sharing their passion for production and music the two began writing and producing together in 2003 and founded the group “Transit”. After some time writing, producing and performing the duo decided to have a break and it wasn’t until the summer of 2007 that would see the two reform to create Def Digital.

Not willing to compromise on quality and intent on presenting their driving, progressive signature sound to the best of their ability, Def Digital deferred all releases until their first official release in July 2009 on the BeatGeek records label. Creating a buzz, “Beautiful Insomnia” shot to number one of the Release Promo charts (www.releasepromo.com) and remained there for two weeks. After a promising pre-release, expectations where high for the duo’s debut EP and Beautiful Insomnia shot to number 7 on the DJ Download progressive charts.

The Beautiful Insomnia EP received critical acclaim with strong support from not only local DJ’s, but also the likes of PQM, Jaytech, DJ Fady Ferraye, Eelke Kleijn and DJ Lemon8. The duo has managed to gain both a strong foothold and international exposure within the progressive scene in a relatively short amount of time.

They have also gained a well earned following with tunes that range from driving progressive house and trance to dirty early morning prog whilst embracing lush, sweeping airy pads, dominating melodic leads riffs and vocals to create those awe inspiring heavenly breakdowns and skin tingling build-ups.

Support has also come from the likes of radio stations Kiss FM, Joy FM, Proton and Frisky to name a few with the duo’s tracks being played by PQM, Blinky, Derek Howell, and Harry Lemon (Lemon-8).

Def Digital have been invited to craft remixes for the likes of PQM, Blinky, DJ Fady Ferraye, Hyline, Felix Stone, Ninesh Babu and Federico Monachesi. Def Digital endeavours to create and produce music beyond the mind’s limitations, be creatively free and to present their sound to a live audience in the same fashion.

Def Digital’s remix of Felix’s Stone’s “In This World” is out now on Jetlag Digital.

Many moons ago Punkz on Junk were born from the fire of ancient raves. Honing their deck wizardry on the turntables of time, they are Bobby Raver and D-Boy! Both punkz and both on junk.

Their energy on stage is something to behold. Punkz are committed to the party, the dancefloor and everyone on it. 2008 was a massive year for the Punkz.

Gigs included: Earthcore, Rainbow Serpent, Royal Doof, Somatica and St Kilda Festival. Supporting the likes of D-NOX and Beckers, Infusion, Green Nuns of the Revolution, Robert Leiner, Dave the Drummer and Juno Reactor – the duo is definitely proving to be a success on the dancefloor!!!

I know I’ve been quite of late but I can assure you it’s with good reason.

Here’s two rather large releases that you’ll find available on Beatport right now.

The first is with Kant Records who are making big waves since their launch last year, so much so that the KRJ and Staro remix of this one has been licenced to Ministry of Sound for a compilation later in the year.

The second release comes at you from one of my favourit organisations – Braoque Records. The Kant EP (confusing I know!) Is a 2 track original and is already nothing up some great support. I hope you all enjoy.

Our favourite Aussie, Blinky, has come up with a superb track that will go down perfectly on the floor.

K.R.J. & Staro has done an incredible remix of Bend, definitely a remix for the big parties this summer. Great potential to make it in the charts if you ask us. Big up!

Alex Aglieri gives us a more technoish remix, very effective indeed.

Enjoy!

https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/release/catalog/?labelId=13290&contextType=labels&contextEntityId=13290

Kant EP

1-Kant
2-Loopy [9/10 for the whole package]
“With previous releases for the likes of Bellarine & Epsilon Traxx, this Australian – Melbourne – based producer is kicking up a bit of a storm, and we are excited to welcome him to our label! His blend of prog, tech & trance, make for a pure and energetic blend of house music. and these two tracks here highlight just why his productions are becoming so in demand.
Loopy has a more funky edge to it, still using that punchy beat n’ bass combination, it adds sparkle and groove in bucket loads… perfect for changing the mood and stepping up the action”

Dimitri: Wild surprises us quite a lot by releasing an EP that is not strictly trance or house. For sure the main influence must be the British prog house scene of the 90’s and the sounds that people associate with that particular scene. Both Kant and Loopy include wobbly beats, chopped and distorted vocals and in their breaks great early electronic music synthy riffs are introduced reminding us of the past and tightening the bonds with the present of electronic dance music. Fresh sounding and really exciting music targeted to warm up your audience and prepare them for the big room tunes.
