Floorplay-RedLight-Flyer-Front

Last week I had to take the week off as Mrs Blinky had a burst appendix. Wasn’t much fun! To give you an idea – a normal appendectomy takes about 20 minutes, this one took 2 hours!

So after much ado I’m finally back in the studio working. Last night I uploaded the clips for BeatGeek’s next release Adamski007 – Hypnotic Fusion to our usual promo sites and overnight have received a heap of great feedback. It’s the 3rd in a series of “deeper” releases that we’ve been doing to show off some of the awesome underground music that’s going on here and the mastering from Danny coupled with some awesome mix down work from Andy Hart have really made for a sold package. You can check it out here.

There’s only 3 weeks left until i head to NZ to rock out with the guys from Floorplay and last night I finally got to rip out the APC40 and run through a few ideas. I will do a proper review when I have been able to give it the attention it deserves but for the time being all I know so far is that it’s awesome fun but has a few bugs so it’s looking like it might be staying home for the NZ gig while i rip it up with the BCR one last time.

There’s a lot coming up in the next couple of weeks but in the mean time here’s an interview that i did yesterday for the guys at www.cityvibes.co.nz

Use Your APC40 As A Monome For Free

September 15th, 2009

After ordering my APC40 from the lads at Novamusic yesterday I’ve been passing the time looking at some great videos of the controller in action on YouTube and one has caught my attention just now.

Cheesy 80s effects and not very informative but with a hell of a kicker at the end. There would be a fair amount of DIY geekery gone into this project however as the video states: it’s available for free at The Track Team Audio website. If you head to the download section these guys seem to do some cool stuff. There’s some great looking Ableton Racks  as well as some cool looking tutorials which I’m going to have a look at when I get home today.

With Live incorporating Max/MSP support a whole new world of tweaking has opened up for more technologically savvy producers but for the time being I’m willing to leech of the smarts of others and download this free pack that supposedly has everything you’ll need to convert your APC40 (or Korg PadKONTROL) into a Monome at a fraction of the price.

Is Three The Magic Number?

September 11th, 2009

untitled

I’ve always been an apprehensive collaborator; each time I get some good creative hours in the studio I really zone in (or out might be a closer description). The vast majority of time spent in a studio for anyone is spent exploring and crafting those sounds that at first sound awful but after time spent on loop they’re whittled into something nice. But this pivotal point of production for me – the discovery process- has always been the pitfall of studio collaboration. » More: Is Three The Magic Number?

Keep In Touch With Your Peeps

September 9th, 2009

mail
I’ve said before on this blog that having a well kept mailing list is on of the most important things you can do to promote yourself. Over time I’ve spent hours upon hours writing, designing and sending emails and until now I’ve done it all manually, however with and increasing workload as BeatGeek expands it’s scope I’ve had to evaluate what I can streamline in order to fit everything in and this morning for around $15 a month I signed up to www.yourmailinglistprovider.com (YMLP) after seeing it on the end of a Release Promo email and within about 1 hour I had imported my databases and designed and sent my first newsletter and I have to say I’m really impressed. » More: Keep In Touch With Your Peeps

Korg’s new Sampling Keyboard leaked

September 8th, 2009

After a few weeks of illness and then some travel to Sydney I’m glad to be back at my desk catching up with all that’s wonderful in the world of music. I’ve been scanning the regular blogs and on looks alone this has grabbed my attention. I’m still forming an opinion on it but my first thought were something along the line of ‘WTF?’

Aesthetically aligned with the casio rap man this is one of the least serious looking serious keyboards I’ve seen in quite a while. Add to that iPod integration (because I know how much you guys love to carry you sample libraries around on your iPod) and you’ve got yourself the Korg microSAMPLER. » More: Korg’s new Sampling Keyboard leaked
