Always weak at the knees for new controllers and a massive fan of Richie Hawtin’s live shows it goes without saying that this video the “a few of my favourite things” category to a tee.
Seeing Fergie playing Traktor of a couple of Faderfoxes the other night did get me thinking that there (until now it seems) hasn’t been a widely accepted standard midi controller for Traktor and with the recent spate of companies (ahem, Ableton) focusing their attention on the controller market NI’s additions look at face value to be extremely solid and more than likely leaving Allan & Heath’s marketing department feeling a bit outdone.
Looking at the video the mappings seem quite standard and effective, I did notice that there’s still a bit of “email checking” going on when queueing up new tracks. Something which I really dislike about most Traktor setups, that said I love the height of these, they sit flush with the mixer and the build looks quality. Apart from that the video doesn’t give much away but it’s got us talking and we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for this either in time for Christmas or possibly at NAMM
